Jinn are mythological creatures
in early Arabian and later Islamic mythology and theology
that are able to appear in human and animal form. The Quran says that the jinn were created from a smokeless and “scorching fire.” There are five types of Jinn.
Types of Jinn:
MARID (pronounced MAA–rid)
Large and imposing, the marid are considered the most powerful tribe of jinn. They are the classic genies of folklore, often portrayed as barrel-chested men with booming voices. Originally sea-spirits, they are often associated with water, and thought to take sanctuary in the open ocean.
EFFRIT (pronounced eff–FREET)
Intelligent and cunning, the effrit are thought to live in complex societies similar to those of humans. They are said to prefer caves and underground dwellings. Though ostensibly demonic, they are portrayed as changeable in nature, and capable of becoming pious and good. In the Quran, King Solomon is said to have had power over a tribe of effrit, who performed various tasks for him
GHOUL
This tribe of jinn has traveled north and west to become a common English- language term for “undead monster.” This is pretty close to its original Arabic connotation; ghouls are thought to be zombie-like jinn who haunt graveyards and prey on human flesh. They are strictly demonic and incapable of goodness. Often portrayed as nocturnal.
SILA
Talented shape-shifters who are more tolerant of human society than other tribes of jinn, sila are most often portrayed as female. Thought to be extremely intelligent, sila are nonetheless the most rarely seen of all the types of jinn, and appear only sporadically in folklore. There is speculation that the term sila might be related to seelie, a Middle English word for “a good faerie.” Sila are extremely rare, and while they are intelligent and comfortable crossing back and forth between realms seen and unseen/human and jinn, by their nature they do not usually set out to harm or trick humans. Sila are, however, fond of meddling in an attempt to help.
VETALA
The original vampires, vetala are semi-malevolent spirits from ancient Indian folklore. They can possess human corpses and prevent them from decaying, and in so doing trick human beings into believing the vetala is an ordinary person. However, vetala can also change shape at will. They are thought to be natural psychics, able to foretell the future and gain insight into the past, as well as read the thoughts of others.
Hey everyone ! See that smart floof ball on the top ? Her name is Kiko, I recently got her and a small kitten, Olivia, from a home where they were both neglegeted all the time and given to a 9 yr old to care for (please never do that, there are plenty of ways to teach kids about responsability but putting them in charge of pets isn’t one of them). Luckily, Olivia wasn’t with them for long so she wasn’t affected much and I was able to find a loving (and responsible) home for her where she is being taken care of.
Unfortunately, it’s not the same for Kiko. One look at her and you would notice that she is not an outdoors cat, but her previous owners let her wander outside all the time and be subject to all kind of things. When I got her, she had two torn claws (now safely bandaged and treated before they got too serious of an infection, thank god) and she was running behind on some of her vaccinations + not spayes. But the most serious thing was her somewhat bent leg that she couldn’t Walk on and kept folded at an odd angle at all times. What we initially thought to be a light fracture turned out to be a more serious issue, as we discovered that her front leg suffers from a bone infection, which the vet thinks is the result of either a very high fall or being run over by a bike, getting a her leg fractured then not being treated and left to become infected.
The surgery to fix Kiko’s fracture needs to be done by a vet in the city (I live in a small town), but that part has been taken care of thanks to a high school friend who agreed to let me stay with her while I’m in the city. The operation amounts to nearly 1.5k CAD, but thanks to financial pet aid the amount has been lowered to 1k CAD (I wasn’t able to get the 50% or 100% coverage because I already have a huge loan I’m paying off). Half of my paycheck already goes to my disabled mother, who lives in the US for the time being (she will be moving back with me in a couple of months, but until then, I have to pay for what her disability check can’t cover) So I have only been able to come up with nearly 600CAD on my own by withdrawing what was in my savings account + help from two of my friends. I still need nearly 400 CAD (equals to nearly 300 USD) to be able to pay for the treatment, and I’ve exhausted every resource I have so please believe me when I say I have no other place to get money from. If you have any dollars to spare, I would be so so so grateful. If not, one reblog or boost would be really appreciated.
The paypal I have is “lemonysnickersbar@yahoo.com” if any of you want to donate. Thank you !!
(Sorry for typpos or “awkward” phrases English isn’t my first language)
SIGNAL BOOST for Kiko’s Surgery. Please help or reblog.
Fun fact: According to Greek legend there was a famous prostitute who managed to avoid a death sentence by showing the judges her boobs and arguing that it would be a crime against the Gods to destroy something so beautiful.
Before you ask, yes there are paintings of this. And yes, they’re amazing.
Cryptozoologist’s Field Guide: The App for All Cryptozoologists
I came across an awesome app today while randomly searching the Google Play Store. The same app also appears to be on the Amazon App Store. The app allows you to select different regions of the country and view different cryptids that have been spotted regularly there. Each cryptid listed has a page of information, including other names, the environment, location, description, origins, and recent sightings of the cryptid.
